Låpsley - Long Way Home (Written a year ago)

The indie sounds of summer 2016 relate to Long Way Home by Holly Fletcher, the Yorkshire singer known as Låpsley. It’s her first published album and an impressive one too. Not only does her unique voice complement the edgy tones, she additionally writes her own music alone, something that can't be said for every young artist.

The album’s vibes are an exquisite blend of mellow and funk, offering a song for more than one mood. From African-style rhythms that introduce one of her songs Cliff, to melancholy sensitivities which surround others such as heartless, outlining her range of beats. What's really interesting about this album is the different variety of tones it endeavours. Some may say it's just a slow, down-beat number of songs, but it depends on how you're perceiving them when you listen. It may also depend on the mood you possess whilst listening.

However the moderate tempo belonging to most of the songs is something to appreciate, it allows the listener to relax. But with that being said, Låpsley’s Operator (he doesn't call me) is the opposite to somber, in fact sounds like a groovy remix of an already made song. This could be due to the way it juxtaposes with the other tracks but either way it's invigorating. It will be interesting to see how her next album, whenever that may be, compares to this. It's not straight-forward to mould an artist’s style on one album, especially if the style on her next one is different.
